All You Need to Know About Jersey City Bicycle Co.
Jersey City has not once, not twice, but has continuously ranked as a top 5 most “walkable” city in the United States, according to Walkscore.com. While walking is indeed a wonderful way to explore our city, it’s true that us East Coasters often like to move quite quickly from point A to point B. When walking doesn’t cut it, what better way to get around town than on your own two wheels?
About the Shop(s)
Downtowners will recognize Jersey City Bicycle Co. from its corner shop at Hamilton Square, a SILVERMAN building. But, this popular shop is actually the second location to their original shop in McGinley Square.
Jersey City Bicycle Co. does is all! They sell, rent and service bicycles from both locations, but the shop at Hamilton Square, located next to Milk Sugar Love right off of Hamilton Park, is the primary location SILVERMAN and downtown Jersey City residentsused for bike purchases and rentals. Their shop in McGinley Square handles the majority of their service and maintenance requests. You can also check out a handful of available bikes for purchase on their website.
Jersey City Bicycle Co. makes it easy for you to schedule services or shopping consultations via their site, as well. Services include tune ups, the “Commuter Clean” and the “Race Package.”
An Owner Committed to the Craft
In 2000, Chris De Los Angeles got his first job at a bicycle shop when he was just 14 years old. From that experience, his love of bicycles only grew. As a child, he had his eyes set on owning a bicycle shop.
The first bike that Chris ever had was a Magma, purchased from Toys r’ Us. It was “one of the coolest gifts ever” at the time, but he still gets pretty excited about a brand new bicycle! He didn’t just find joy riding his own bike, he enjoyed being able to help people with their own bikes, as well. Chris’s favorite thing to do is “just hit the open road on his bike and leave everything behind.” When he needs a sense of freedom and disconnect from the busy world, it’s his go-to. It’s no wonder that he’s seen so much success with both of his shops today, his business is fueled by passion.
Chris is still very involved in his business and finds joy helping customers new and old. Many of his customers are long-time, Jersey City regulars that trust him with their trusty (and often main) form of transportation.
A Customer / Cyclists First Mentality
Both of Jersey City Bicycle Co’s locations are staffed with experienced, knowledgable bicycle professionals. Their customer service is exceptional, as is their array of offerings and services.
Periodically, the team at Jersey City Bicycle Co. work with our residents (shoutout to Julie Morgan!) to coordinate SILVERMAN bike rides on the weekends. Residents meet up at the Hamilton Park shop with their bike or planning to rent one. From there, they’ll travel downtown past Charles & Co. and ultimately, all the way to Liberty State Park. What a ride! Jersey City Bicycle Co. is always so accommodating with SILVERMAN residents, and this fun new tradition is a great example.
